A skin type indicates how much oil is produced by your body. What you eat, breath, inhale, take down mentally and physically, will all determined your skin type.
Why would you even want to understand what type of skin type you have?
So you would understand what products to use, upon bathing or other instances where you have to indicate your skin type. So you can understand if your skin has any special needs that you need to fulfill for it (which is essentially, for the continuation of its well being). Even if you don’t think you might have a skin condition, it is essential to take good care of it.

The simple test which is common among households but has proved to be less than accurate by western medicine, is to dry a piece of paper, push it against the skin, and see if it sticks. In theory, the oilier it is, the stickier it’s going to get.
A better way would be just to understand what each ones means, and match it against what you already know about your skin. I presume you would have much further prior interaction with your skin before the watery paper test, so this is one I account to be more reliable.
